Fukuoka Builders Coliving – 14 nights of co-creation, Web3 sandbox, and regional roots in Japan

This autumn, a rare convergence is taking shape in Japan: fast-moving startup culture, centuries of craft, and a global community of builders meeting in one place.

Selected as an official national pilot by the Japan Tourism Agency, Fukuoka Builders' Coliving (Sept 30 – Oct 14) pairs the momentum of Fukuoka City with the depth and heritage of three neighboring regional hubs.

Rooted in the concept of Fudo (風土) where the wind of global builders meets the soil of regional traditions this is a live sandbox to test real-world Web3 payment rails, co-create solutions with local leaders, and build a genuine working relationship with Japan.

Why Does This Project Matter Now?

Japan’s regional heritage faces a quiet crisis: traditional crafts are fading, sudden global booms, like the international surge in matcha , are straining local supply chains, and rural economies remain disconnected from digital infrastructure.

This program bridges that gap. By bringing global builders directly to the frontlines, we use Web3 payment rails and tech innovation not to erase tradition, but to equip regional communities with the tools, capital, and global networks needed to thrive on their own terms.

Phase 1. Fukuoka City: Where Tradition Meets Innovation (Sept 30 – Oct 11)

Your stay begins in Kyushu's energetic central city. Fukuoka stands out in Japan for driving a world-class startup ecosystem and tech scene while keeping historic traditions grounded in daily life.

2. Choose Your Regional Hub (Oct 11 – Oct 14)

After 11 energized days in Fukuoka City, branch out to one of three beautiful suburban hubs to focus, reset, and immerse yourself in authentic regional culture:

Yame City — Matcha & Artisan Heritage:

Yame is one of the world's most respected matcha-growing regions and its defining industry is being pulled in a new direction.Tackle the challenges facing a traditional tea industry amidst surging global demand. By engaging directly with local artisans and strategizing how to share their craft with the world, you’ll take on a rewarding challenge: designing the future of a legacy craft that has endured for centuries.

Koga City — Retro Charm & Community Revival: 

Set between mountain and sea, Koga offers a slower pace and genuine local hospitality. Step into the retro shopping streets and family-run businesses to explore ways to revitalize the local economy from within. Instead of external consulting, you’ll work side-by-side with the people on the ground to identify "real, actionable steps" toward a sustainable future, gaining a deeply authentic experience in co-creation.

Buzen City — Sacred Nature & Mindfulness Retreat:

After eleven intense days in Fukuoka, retreat to the serenity of Mt. Kubote for deep reflection. Re-examine the purpose of what you are building, free from the noise, and take this time to quietly yet powerfully refine your strategy as a builder for the journey ahead.

Public-Private Pilot for the Next Model of Location-Independent Living

This program operates as a real-world sandbox to test new frameworks for borderless, location-independent living.

• Subsidized Regional Stay (Public-Private Innovation):
  Backing this project as an official pilot, the Japan Tourism Agency aims to connect global tech talent with regional economies. As part of the trial, your three-night accommodation in Yame, Koga, or Buzen (Oct 11–14) is fully subsidized (free of charge).

• Stablecoin Payment Trial (USDC / USDT & SuzuPay Bonus): 
  
  Bypass traditional foreign exchange hurdles. Local shops, cafes, and pubs across all four hubs are implementing QR-code stablecoin payments (USDC/USDT)—a multi-region trial on a scale rarely seen in Japan.
  The trial uses SuzuPay, a system that converts USDC/USDT into SuzuPay points for local spending. Program participants who use the SuzuPay app will receive ¥5,000 worth of SuzuPay points to spend locally (points are non-exchangeable for cash or crypto).

• On-the-Ground Community Managers:
  Each hub features a dedicated local community manager. Rather than acting as concierge staff, they serve as connectors, introducing you directly to local business owners, artisans, and community leaders.
