Selected as an official pilot initiative by the Japan Tourism Agency, the Fukuoka Builders' Coliving program runs for 14 nights (September 30 – October 14). Tailored for remote engineers, Web3 creators, and global nomads, this isn't just another coliving setup. It's a collaborative project to test and shape the future of location-independent living.

Bringing together the momentum of Fukuoka City, one of Japan's top startup hubs with the pristine landscapes and heritage of three neighboring towns, here is your guide to working, building, and living in Japan this fall.

1. Fukuoka City: Where Tradition Meets Innovation (Sept 30 – Oct 11)

Your stay begins in Kyushu's energetic central city. Fukuoka stands out in Japan for driving a world-class startup ecosystem and tech scene while keeping historic traditions grounded in daily life.

• Work & Co-Creation:
  Gain full access to the Colive Fukuoka October Program, featuring events like the Ikigai Summit, Co-creator’s Week, and the Ramen Tech Startup Conference. Rather than sitting back as an audience member, you'll actively pitch, test, and trade ideas with builders from around the globe.

• Grounded, Personal Connections:
  Forget transactional networking. Pull up a stool at an open-air Yatai food stall, share a meal with local founders, artisans, and international creators, and build relationships that outlast your trip.

2. Choose Your Regional Hub (Oct 11 – Oct 14)

After 11 energized days in Fukuoka City, branch out to one of three beautiful suburban hubs to focus, reset, and immerse yourself in authentic regional culture:

Yame City — Matcha & Artisan Heritage:

Nestled among rolling green tea hills, Yame is renowned worldwide for its high-grade matcha. Set up your workspace at the converted Former Kawasaki Elementary School, join the "Matcha-thon" ideathon, visit traditional woodworking workshops, and trade ideas with local social entrepreneurs.

• Accommodation: Yame Green Hotel

• Key Spots: Former Kawasaki Elementary School (workspace & workshops), historic merchant street, tea plantations, vacant home (akiya) tours, and local furniture/craft studios.

Koga City — Retro Charm & Community Revival: 

Experience mountain-to-sea scenery and warm local hospitality. Work from central community spaces like Lulululu or the Chamber of Commerce, join bar-hopping tours along retro station alleys, tour regional food production facilities, and unwind at the historic KiOso hot spring inn.

• Accommodation: Yakuouji Onsen "Onioso" (Ryokan)

• Key Spots: Koga Honmachi Shopping Street, "Lulululu" community hub, Koga Chamber of Commerce Hall, local food factories (e.g., House Foods, Pietro), and the coastal shoreline.

Buzen City — Sacred Nature & Mindfulness Retreat:

Framed by Mt. Kubote—a historic center for mountain asceticism—Buzen offers an ideal setting for mental clarity and focus. Work from coworking space ZigZag, watch traditional Buzen Kagura ritual dances, try forest therapy, and relax with a riverside tent sauna and BBQ.

Prototyping the Future Life: Web3 Payments & Public-Private Innovation

This program operates as a real-world sandbox to test new frameworks for borderless, location-independent living.

• Subsidized Regional Stay (Public-Private Innovation):
  Backing this project as an official pilot, the Japan Tourism Agency aims to connect global tech talent with regional economies. As part of the trial, your three-night accommodation in Yame, Koga, or Buzen (Oct 11–14) is fully subsidized (free of charge).

• Stablecoin Payment Trial (USDC / USDT & SuzuPay Bonus): 
  
  Bypass traditional foreign exchange hurdles. Local shops, cafes, and pubs across all four hubs are implementing QR-code stablecoin payments (USDC/USDT)—a multi-region trial on a scale rarely seen in Japan.
  The trial uses SuzuPay, a system that converts USDC/USDT into SuzuPay points for local spending. Program participants who use the SuzuPay app will receive ¥5,000 worth of SuzuPay points to spend locally (points are non-exchangeable for cash or crypto).

• On-the-Ground Community Managers:
  Each hub features a dedicated local community manager. Rather than acting as concierge staff, they serve as connectors, introducing you directly to local business owners, artisans, and community leaders.

Who Should Join?

• Curious Explorers & Community Builders:
  People eager to spend time in regional Japan, engage directly with residents, and share ideas on the future of rural communities.

• Active Crypto & Stablecoin Users:
  People who hold and use stablecoins (USDC/USDT). Because this pilot measures how Web3 technology can drive regional economies, priority will be given to participants ready to use stablecoin payments on the ground.

• Feedback Collaborators:
  Participants willing to complete mandatory surveys and interviews to help improve Japan’s infrastructure for global digital nomads.

  (Appx. EUR 920.00 based on EUR/JPY = JPY 185 by TTS / as of 7 August)
