Thank you so much, Lawrence, for joining us today.
So, thinking back to last year, out of all the destinations and events in the world, what originally made you choose Colive Fukuoka?

Lawrence:

So I was invited by a friend who went to the Danang Nomad Fest, where he was introduced to Colive Fukuoka. At first, I didn’t know anything about it, but eventually, he led me to meet Ryo, the founder of Colive Fukuoka.

I was so amazed and inspired by the vision and the mission of Colive Fukuoka. It really resonates with me—the goal of growing awareness and building a community for foreigners living in Fukuoka. I felt that this was my mission as well, as a foreigner living here.

I have also been taken care of by the city of Fukuoka because I had an accident before, and I chose Fukuoka as the city for my recovery. I encountered such amazing services and hospital care throughout the city. I believe I owe Fukuoka a lot, and I want to provide value in return. I want to have the opportunity to return the favor and the service I received from this city. I love Fukuoka as much as I love what I’m doing right now, and I want to contribute to its growth. I believe Colive Fukuoka is the perfect space for me to return that love.

Haruka:

That’s such an inspiring passion and vision for this city, Fukuoka.
I think a lot of people are looking for a place to be for the right chance or opportunity. What is Colive Fukuoka’s specific appeal for them?

Lawrence:

Colive Fukuoka explains and gives you an adventure and a taste of what Japanese culture is all about. I think it also fits people who love business and entrepreneurship or those just starting out, because the event gives you plenty of opportunities to show your work and see how Fukuoka can fit your business needs.

The startups here have a lot of events that you will enjoy, where you can find the right person or the "missing piece" to help your business start and grow with the right people. There are so many good people in the community, and you really want to dive into these events. Because it’s supported by the government, it is legit—it is for real.

Haruka:

I completely agree. Having that direct support from the local government is a huge deal. Given that solid foundation, what do you think is the absolute biggest benefit for someone stepping into this event and this ecosystem for the first time?

Lawrence:

I think there is so much. My biggest regret is that I didn’t know about this event much sooner. This is the fourth time this year, but I only discovered this community last year. If you’re looking for a good community, this is the place to be. If you’re looking to really dive into the culture, the lifestyle, or find a great space to live in Japan as a nomad, this is the event you want to go to.

And whether you’re looking for food, trips, adventure, or parties, I think this is the place to visit. Also if you’re looking for business—if you’re a startup looking for investors, or if you are an investor yourself—Colive Fukuoka is a legitimate event collaborating with the local government. I highly recommend it for entrepreneurs; for people who have a startup and want to get started, this is the event to attend. It covers everything a foreigner wants to explore when they go to a new country. I promise you, you will fall in love with the event, and you will fall in love with the city.

Haruka:

It really sounds like a complete life shift, not just a standard business conference. Now, looking ahead to the 2026 edition, I know there are still people wondering if they should take the leap. In your eyes, what kind of people do you think would fit this event best?

Lawrence:

Right, I think there are many, but specifically three types of people. First, those who love the culture of Japan and want to experience the "legit" culture. You will be amazed by the depth of the culture and the mindset of the people here.

Second, if you have a startup or a business, you would love to dive into this community and the support available. I believe government employees will be present during the event, so if you have legal questions or need support, they can answer you—and they speak English. It is an English-friendly environment.

And third, it’s for people who have the aspiration to really live in Japan. You can find proper housing and a proper space here; the community can support you in that.

So yeah, I would also like to hear what you’re going to say when you compare it to Tokyo or Osaka. It’s not a competition, but I want you to try!
